New Orleans
New Orleans is a place rich in culture of all kinds. Often referred to as the most Northern Caribbean City, the “feel” of the city closely resembles that of the Caribbean and the music has in fact played a large role in the progression of the music from the West Indies. WWOZ has long been known as one of the nations most diverse and progressive radio stations and on clear days, the signal graces the shores of the islands, projecting artists such as Dr. John, Fats Domino and others into Caribbean culture. This influence is well documented and can be heard in Caribbean music from the 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s.
